Below you’ll find some fantastic Volunteers’ Week content. We’ve got tips, quotes, stories and resources
We’ve been working hard behind the scenes, collecting quotes from some of our incredible volunteers! Here are just a few!
“Volunteering feels joyful and I love helping the residents around the site“.
“I like to keep busy and help others“.
“Volunteering is an enjoyable task, where I get to make people smile“.
Take a look at these fantastic quotes below from some very appreciated volunteers, and let their words serve as a reminder of the importance of giving back and the profound impact that acts of kindness can have on the world.
Ever wondered what to consider when recruiting volunteers? Here are some top tips from our Volunteer Coordinator at the Volunteer Centre Thurrock.
Before you recruit, be well prepared & have all necessary policies and procedures in place.
Remember they are giving up their time to support you.
They are not getting paid, so don’t expect the same output as a paid employee.
Be flexible.
Explain commitments that will be required.
Have a volunteer guide.
Ensure a volunteer agreement is in place, using non employment language.
Consider how you reward them for their time, either expenses, vouchers or others.
Match the volunteers skills to the tasks that you have.
Take a look at these stories from individuals who give us a detailed insight into why they volunteer, the benefits of volunteering and its importance.
Explain why you volunteer……
“I have a love of history and when I retired I wanted to give my time to promote the priceless history that surrounds us so events and key points are not forgotten.
There is also the social side of volunteering, meeting people with a shared interest is so rewarding. It would be easy to become a recluse and spend your days vegetating in front of the telly, bad for your health and mental wellbeing“.
What are the benefit of volunteering?
“I find volunteering to be very rewarding and provides great satisfaction when people leave our centre with a renewed interest in their local history.
I have also undertaken tasks that I have never done before, a great confidence builder indeed.
The above, coupled with the social benefits, keep your brain ticking over and presents you with with new challenges“.
What’s the importance of volunteering?
“For me personally, it’s a sense of achievement in playing your part to preserve and share local history with everyone, once gone it is forgotten for ever.
I also believe it provides a massive tick for mental wellbeing by keeping the brain active and creative.
I also feel I am assisting the community, especially for those suffering with ailments such as Dementia. To go to a care home and spark a memory is a true blessing“.
We’d like to share another volunteer story!
Explain why you volunteer…..
“I find joy knowing that I have made a difference to someone’s day. To give back to the community and support those who want support”.
What are the benefits of volunteering?
“It makes the clients happy and it boosts my CV. I also get the full support of the team I work with“.
What’s the importance of volunteering?
“It’s important because it empowers people who think they can not do anything until they try and get the support to utilise their strengths.
It is also a person centred approach. We focus on what the clients want and support them to achieve that“.
I think you’ll agree that these are fantastic stories and a great insight into volunteering.
We’d like to say a MASSIVE THANK YOU to volunteers far and wide!
