Thurrock Carers Service celebrated Carers Week with a variety of events for those caring for someone living in Thurrock. Carers Week 2023 took place from 5th June 11th June and is an annual campaign to provide awareness of caring and help identify those who may be entitled to support they are not receiving.
The week began with a visit to the Cafe in Grays Park for lunch on Monday.
On Tuesday we held a wellbeing day for carers which featured drawing and other arts & crafts, board games, face masks, foot packs and hand massages from Sarah Fitzgerald at Koru Acupuncture; a local business who kindly volunteered her time. Our carers enjoyed the time to relax and revitalize, as it’s so important to take time to look after yourself when caring for somebody else.
In the evening our carers took part in first aid training delivered by Duncan Galbraith from Safe Swimming Services & First Aid Courses. Lots was learnt and our carers were very grateful for this training.
On Wednesday we held a seaside themed event at our Grays Hub. Our carers enjoyed a fish and chip lunch, name the beach quiz, charades and several games of bingo.
An informational drop in was held on Thursday at our Grays Hub, where our staff along with, Local Area Coordinators, Community Lead Support Workers, Alzheimer’s Society, Essex Police, Recovery College and Thurrock and Brentwood Mind Peer and Volunteering service provided key information and advice for carers. This was also a great chance to network and talk about how we support carers in Thurrock.
The finale event was a lovely afternoon tea at the Lightship Cafe in Grays. The sun was shining for us and the event was enjoyed by all who attended.
Our staff and carers are all in agreement that Carers Week 2023 was a huge success. Our carers have certainly all enjoyed themselves and had a well-earned break from all the hard work they do everyday.
