One in three of us born in the UK today will later develop dementia in our lifetime, this means there will be one million people living with dementia by 2025 making dementia care one of the greatest challenges facing our society.
We all have a role to play in making the UK a dementia-friendly place to live, Thurrock CVS recognises how important this is and that’s why we’re working towards becoming a Dementia Friendly Organisation.
Earlier this week Thurrock CVS Staff attended a virtual Dementia Friends session, hosted by Essex Dementia Friends at the Alzheimer’s society.
Jacqui Payne, Community Development and Engagement Senior Manager at Thurrock CVS said, “I found the session extremely informative, not only in helping us to understand the effects of Dementia, but also, the signs to look out for. I couldn’t believe that there were over 100 different types of dementia, and that it doesn’t just affect people of an older age, in some cases it can be children too.
“I would really recommend this Information session to other organisations and community individuals, with the support and help of others, people can live well with Dementia and we can help to create Dementia Friendly Communities in Thurrock”
How Organisations can help
All organisations can help raise awareness and support people affected by dementia in our community. It can be as little as displaying a virtual badge on social media, making a phone call to someone affected by dementia or getting involved in the this week’s dementia awareness campaign: Dementia Action Week May 2021, is your organisation dementia friendly? Become a Dementia Friend!
