Joshua Achieves Butterfly Treble
Swimmers from Thurrock Swimming Club participated in the 15 & over East Region Championships held in Norwich. The swimmers who train with Impulse Leisure at Blackshots Leisure Centre enjoyed many medals, top 8 finishes, and many personal best times.
Joshua Shepherd (15) had a great championship winning the 50, 100 & 200 butterfly finals. In the 200 final Josh took off 8 seconds from his heat time and he also improved all of his times from the heats. He was joint 2nd in the 50 back and 4th in the 50free with a PB. He also competed in the 100 free and 100 back. Henry Dean (17) achieved a personal best time in the heats of the 100 fly but fractionally missed out on a medal in the 17+ age group final finishing 4th. Henry swam just outside of his best to finish 2nd in the 17+ 50 fly. In the 200 fly, Henry achieved a PB in the heats and took another second off in the final finishing 5th overall. He also set a PB in the 50 back. He also swam just outside of his best in the 50 free and 100 back. Louise Webster (16) swam 6 seconds faster in the final if the 200 fly and finished 7th overall with a 3 second best time. In the 100 fly Louise equalled her best time. Jenson Hurrell (17+) swam just outside his best time the 100 fly and competed in the 50 back and 50 free, 100 back and 50 fly. Ethan Martin (17+) also swam fractionally outside his PB and also competed in the 50 back, 100 back & 50 & 100 free. In the 50 fly, Ethan set a personal best time. Olivia Church (17) achieved a 2 second best time in the 400 free finishing 8th and equalled her seasons best in the 50 free. In the 200 free, Olivia achieved a 3 second PB. She also competed in the 50 back50 fly, & 100 free. Nikita Charykin (17) swam just outside of his seasons best in the 100 fly just missing out on a top 8 position. Nikita made the final of the 200 back and equalled his best time finishing 3rd overall equalling his personal best time in the 17+ age group. After finishing 6th in the 200IM and improving his heat times by 1 second, Nikita went straight into the 100 back final. He finished 5th in the 100 back and equalled his personal best. Nikita also made the 200 fly final. Mia Ward (17) swam well in the 200 back. Colin Moghina (17+) competed in the 100 breast & 50 free. Ben Minister (17) finished with a 2 second PB in the 100 fly and a huge 5 second improvement in the 400IM. Ben set an 8 second PB in the 200 fly and a 4 second PB in the 200 back to make the final. In the final, Ben finished 6th. Ben also set a best times in the 200 fly and 100 back. Danny Thompson (16) swam a great 400IM and finished 5th in his age group. Danny set a best time in the 200 fly and made the final. Danny took off another second to finish 7th in the final. In the 400 free, Danny finished 5th overall with a 4 second best time. Danny continued to set best times in the 200 free and also competed in the 200IM. Lucas Ankudavicius (15) swam in his first regional championships and achieved a huge best time in the 400 free. Ayobami Akindele (16) swam well in the 50m fly. Bryony Edgings (17+) achieved a best time in the 100 back.
In the boys 17+ freestyle relay, Ethan Martin, Nikita Charykin, Henry Dean and Jenson Hurrell swam a brilliant race finishing 3rd overall. The swimmers also competed in the 4×100 medley relay finishing a credible 4th position.
