The British and English Summer Championships & National Open Water took place in July and August at Sheffield’s 50m swimming complex. The team achieved personal best times, final positions and a Bronze medal from Henry Dean in the British Championships and Ben Minister in the English Championship. All the swimmer’s train at Blackshots Leisure Centre with Impulse Leisure. The championships got off to a great start at the British event with Nikita Charykin (17) achieving best times in the 200 fly and 100 back. He also made finals for both swims. In the final of the 200 fly, Nikita swam just a bit slower than the heats and came 10th overall. Thirty-five minutes later he swam the 100 back final and achieved another best time and finished in 9th position. Nikita finished one place outside of the final in the 200medley but achieved another best time. IN the 200 back, Nikita achieved another 2 sec PB to make the final. In the final, he improved again by another second to finish 5th overall. Henry Dean (17) started off his campaign with a fantastic swim in the 100 fly making the final with a 1.5 second pb. In the final, Henry finished 10th overall, just slightly slower than his heat time. In the 50 fly, Henry achieved a best time to pace 3rd in the 50 fly final. In the final, Henry had an amazing swim, finishing in Bronze position with another personal best time. Joshua Shepherd, swimming in the 15 year old age group swam brilliantly in the 100 fly, making the final with a 1 second pb. In the final, he improved his time again by another second and came in 8th overall. Joshua also competed in the 200 fly, finishing fractionally outside of his best time. Ben Minister competed in his first British Championships. He swam a very courageous race and finished just outside of his best in the 200 back. Ben also competed in the 400 medley in the English Summer Championships. In the heats, Ben achieved a 6 second PB to make the evening final. Swimming in his first national final, Ben finished 4th with another best time. Olivia Church competed in the 17&18 year 5km Open Water race held in Rotherham. Olivia had a great race finishing 17th overall and 12th in the 17 year age group. She also swam the 5km event with a best time of over 3 minutes.
